Reports & PDF Export

Export a RodSim simulation to PDF. Pick a unit system, customize the cover and sections, preview live, and save reusable report templates.

Open a finished simulation and click Download Report in the top-right to open the Generate Report dialog.

Basic Export

Every plan can generate a standard PDF:

  1. Set the Unit System for the numbers and units in the PDF (defaults to your account preference).
  2. Optionally add a Description Note - free text printed on the second page. Typing here automatically includes the comments section.
  3. Click Create report.

The PDF renders in the background and downloads automatically when ready. Closing the dialog while it runs keeps generation going.

Reports are not saved on the well, so keep the downloaded file yourself.

When branding is enabled, a Company field appears and prints your company name on the report.

Custom Report Builder

The template, cover, section, and live-preview controls below require a plan with custom reports enabled. Without it, the dialog shows the basic export above.

Template

Pick a layout from the Template select. Standard PetroBench Report is the built-in default; your saved templates appear below it, with the active default marked (default).

Next to the select:

  • Star - pin the active template as your default, so it loads automatically next time. Click again to unpin.
  • Trash - delete the active template (a confirmation asks first; reports already generated with it stay intact).
  • Disk - save the current setup. On the standard template it offers Save as new template; on one of your templates with unsaved edits it offers Save changes.

Cover

Cover Title and Cover Subtitle override the text on the report's cover page.

Sections

Choose what the report includes. Sections are grouped (overview, simulation data, graphs, depth tables, dynamics):

  • Group switch - toggle every section in a group at once.
  • Checkbox - include or exclude a single section.
  • Drag handle - reorder sections within a group; the PDF follows this order.
  • Info icon - explains what a section contains.
  • Reset to default - restore the standard section selection.

Two sections expose extra controls:

  • Row mode (Directional Survey, Rod Summary) - All, 50 (first 50 rows), or Nth (every Nth row, with a count input).
  • Graph size (graph sections) - S, M, or L.

The Closing Page is always included and can't be toggled off.

Filename

The Filename field is pre-filled with an auto-generated name (for example, PetroBench Report-<simulation>-<date>). Edit it or leave it as-is; .pdf is appended automatically.

Live Preview

A preview pane shows the report as you change settings.

Its toolbar:

ControlAction
Fit page / Fit widthScale the page to the pane
Zoom out / inStep the zoom level; the current percentage shows between them
Refresh previewRe-render the preview
Hide / Show options panelCollapse the settings column to give the preview full width

If every toggleable section is off, the preview warns that the report would contain only the cover page.

Templates

Save a configured layout to reuse it later:

  • Save as Template - name the current template, sections, and cover. If the name already exists, you can replace it.
  • Save changes - update the template you have open.
  • Pin as default - the pinned template loads automatically each time you open the dialog.
  • Delete template - remove one of your templates.

For comparing simulations side by side, see Comparisons.
