Custom Rods

Create custom rod string configurations in PetroBench. Define rod grades, diameters, and taper designs for accurate stress and fatigue analysis.

Create custom rods when your rod specs aren't in the standard library.

Create a Custom Rod

  1. Click the Custom Equipment (wrench) icon on a simulation page
  2. Select the Rods tab
  3. Click Create Custom Rod
  4. Enter the fields:
FieldDescription
Rod TypeSucker Rod, Sinker Bar, Fiberglass, or Continuous
ManufacturerManufacturer name
GradeRod grade designation
Elastic ModulusMaterial stiffness (psi)
Stress Calculation MethodStress calculation approach
Minimum Tensile Strengthksi (Sucker Rod, Sinker Bar, Continuous)
No NeckSinker Bar only
  1. Under Diameter & Weight Configurations, add one or more diameter/weight rows. Each row creates a separate rod, so you can add a whole size range at once.
  2. Click Create N Custom Rod(s) (the count reflects how many configurations you added).

Editing an existing rod shows a single Diameter and Weight instead of the multi-row configuration list.

The Publish as option (Personal, Pending review, or Approved) sets where the rod starts: see Sharing & Approval.

Create from Simulation

You can also create custom rods while configuring a simulation:

  1. In Rod Configuration, click Create Custom Rod
  2. Complete the form
  3. The new rod is immediately available

Using Custom Rods

  1. In simulation Rod Configuration, add a rod section
  2. Select manufacturer → grade → diameter
  3. Custom rods appear alongside standard rods
  4. Configure length and guides as usual

You can mix standard and custom rods in the same string.

Edit or Delete

  • Your Rods tab shows rods you created
  • Company Rods tab shows all rods in your organization
  • Click Edit to modify, Delete to remove

Editing a custom rod affects all simulations that reference it.
