Getting StartedTroubleshootingOrganization Access

Organization Access

Fix organization access issues in PetroBench. Troubleshoot when you can't see wells, simulations, or data your team can, or when you hit a No Access screen.

You expected to see certain wells, simulations, or teammates, but they aren't there, or you landed on a screen that says you have no access. This almost always comes down to which organization you're in and what your role allows.

What an Organization Is

PetroBench is multi-tenant. An organization is the top-level container that owns your data: wells, simulations, comparisons, equipment, and members all belong to an organization. Data is isolated between organizations, so an organization can only ever see its own wells and simulations.

You can belong to more than one organization (for example, an operator you work for plus a consulting account). Only one organization is active at a time, and everything you see is filtered to that active organization. Your role and permissions can differ from one organization to the next.

Common Symptoms

SymptomUsual cause
Expected wells or simulations are missingWrong organization selected, or data owned by a different organization
Dashboard is empty or shows unfamiliar dataYou're in the wrong organization
A colleague can see data you can'tInsufficient role or permissions, or data scoped to a team you're not in
No Access screenRemoved from the organization, or membership not active yet
You were invited but see nothingInvitation not yet accepted
Access just set up through your companySSO or SCIM provisioning still propagating

Wrong Organization Selected

The most common cause. If you belong to multiple organizations, you may simply be looking at the wrong one.

  1. Click the organization name in the sidebar (below the PetroBench logo)
  2. Select the correct organization from the dropdown
  3. For organizations with regions, expand to see and pick the right region

When you switch, wells, simulations, and equipment all filter to the selected organization, and anything new you create belongs to it.

If you have access to many organizations, use the search box in the switcher to find the one you want quickly. See Switch Organization for details.

Invitation Not Yet Accepted

If someone invited you to their organization, your membership isn't active until you accept.

  1. Check your email (including spam or quarantine folders) for the invitation
  2. Open the invitation and follow the prompts to join
  3. Sign in and use the organization switcher to select the organization

If you can't find the invitation, ask the person who invited you to resend it, and confirm they used the correct email address.

Insufficient Role or Permissions

PetroBench uses role-based access control with three built-in roles: Admin, Engineer, and Viewer. Your role determines what you can see and do, and data visibility can also be scoped by team or region within an organization.

If a colleague can see something you can't, you may have a more limited role, or the data may belong to a team or region you're not assigned to.

  1. Confirm you're in the correct organization first (see above)
  2. Ask your organization administrator to check your role and the teams or regions you belong to
  3. Have them adjust your access or add you to the relevant team if needed

Only an organization administrator can change roles and team or region assignments. Support cannot grant access on your behalf; the request has to come from an admin in your organization.

Removed From the Organization

If you previously had access and now see a No Access screen, your membership in that organization may have been removed or suspended.

  • If you belong to more than one organization, switch to another from that screen and keep working
  • If you believe the removal was a mistake, contact your organization administrator to be re-added
  • If the whole organization lost access, this may be a billing issue rather than a membership one. See Trial or License Expired

Newly Provisioned Through SSO or SCIM

If your company uses Single Sign-On (SSO) or automated SCIM provisioning, newly created or newly assigned accounts can take a short while to appear, and directory changes on your identity provider's side need to sync across.

  1. Wait a few minutes, then sign out and sign back in
  2. Confirm with your IT team that they assigned you to PetroBench in your identity provider
  3. If access still doesn't appear after syncing, ask your IT or organization administrator to verify the provisioning succeeded

Changes made in your company's identity provider (adding you to a group, changing your role) apply on the next sync. If you were just added, give it a little time before assuming something is broken.

Data Owned by a Different Organization

Sometimes the wells or simulations you're after genuinely live in another organization, not the one you're in. Because data is isolated per organization, there's no way to view it from the wrong one.

  1. Ask a teammate which organization (and region) the data belongs to
  2. Switch to that organization using the sidebar switcher
  3. If you're not a member of it, ask an administrator there to invite you

When to Contact Support

Reach out to support@petrobench.com if:

  • You're in the correct organization, your role looks right, and data is still missing
  • You accepted an invitation but still can't access the organization
  • SSO or SCIM access hasn't appeared well after your IT team confirmed provisioning
  • You're not sure who your organization administrator is and need to be pointed to them

Include:

  • The organization (and region) you expect to see
  • The specific wells or simulations that are missing, by name
  • Your role, if you know it, and who your administrator is
  • A screenshot of what you see (including any No Access screen)
