Getting Started

PetroBench is a cloud-based rod pump simulation platform. Design rod strings, run simulations, compare scenarios, and generate reports from your browser.
No. PetroBench runs entirely in your browser. Just go to app.petrobench.com and log in.
Chrome is recommended. Edge and Firefox work well. Safari has limited chart support.
PetroBench works on tablets but is designed for desktop use. Phone screens are too small for simulation workflows.
Contact your organization admin for an invitation, or reach out to [email protected] for a trial.

Wells & Data

Go to Wells, click New Well, enter the well name and basic info, then save.
  • RSDX/RSVX - RodStar simulation files
  • Inp6e - Legacy simulation files
  • Excel - Directional surveys and bulk well data
Yes. Drag and drop RSDX or RSVX files directly into PetroBench. Well data, rod strings, and equipment are imported automatically.
Check that your Excel file has columns for measured depth, inclination, and azimuth with numeric values (no text in data cells).
Yes. All imported data can be modified. Go to the well details page and update any field.

Simulations

  1. Select a well
  2. Click New Simulation
  3. Configure inputs (pumping unit, rod string, fluid properties)
  4. Click Run Simulation
Check validation errors. Common issues:
  • Rod length doesn’t match PSN depth (must be within ±50 ft)
  • Missing required fields
  • Values out of valid range
Open the simulation, click Duplicate. This creates a copy you can modify without affecting the original.
After running a simulation, go to Results and click Download. Enter a description and confirm.

Equipment

PetroBench includes catalogs from major manufacturers. You can also create custom units with your own specifications.
Yes. Go to Equipment > Custom Pumping Units or Custom Rods to add your own equipment specifications.
  • Standard API steel rods
  • Branded sucker rods with manufacturer specs
  • Fiberglass rods
  • Continuous rods
  • Custom rods
In the Rod String configuration, select guides from the library or set custom spacing. You can include guide weight in calculations.
Yes. Equipment you add is saved to your organization’s library for reuse across simulations.

Calculators

  • Predictive IPR
  • Rod Pump Production
  • Hydraulic Lift
  • Pump Slippage
  • Stroke Rate
  • Sheave Size
  • Flow Velocity
Calculator results are standalone. Use them for quick analysis before setting up a full simulation.

Organization & Access

Yes. Use the organization switcher in the sidebar to switch between organizations.
Contact your organization admin. Only admins can change user roles.
These are organizational levels. HQ is the top level, Divisions are under HQ, Regions are under Divisions. Data access follows this hierarchy.

Account & Security

Click Forgot password? on the login page. Check your email for a reset link.
Accounts lock after multiple failed login attempts. Wait 15 minutes or reset your password.
Go to Settings > Security > Change Email. You’ll need to verify the new email.
Your data is preserved but you can’t log in. Contact support to reactivate.
