Tubing Data

Tubing data is where the parameters of the tubing string are defined, including the tubing specifications, PSN depth, and tubing anchor depth. Tools are also included in the tubing data tap to assist users in selecting an optimal PSN depth.

  1. The first step in tubing data is entering or verifying the Maximum Allowable Inclination @PSN, Maximum Allowable Dogleg Severity @ PSN, and the Maximum Allowable Dogleg Severity Above the PSN.

The Maximum allowable variables on the left are user defined guidelines for selecting a PSN depth. The fields are auto populated with default values in the RodSim defaults section, the maximum possible PSN Depth while adhering to the maximum allowable guidelines will be provided in the Maximum PSN Depth Available field.

  2. Next the user must select if the tubing is anchored or not. If it is, a tubing anchor depth is required. The tubing anchor depth is populated based on a PSN Depth – Anchor Depth offset defined in the RodSim defaults section, unless the simulation was created from a third-party simulation input file, then it is populated from that file.

  3. The PSN Depth Selection is the actual measured depth of the PSN to be used in the simulation. If the simulation was created from a third-party simulation input file, then it is populated from that file.

The Variables below the PSN Depth Selection calculated values to provide the user with the contextual information based on the PSN depth selected.

Target fluid level is calculated from the PSN depth and the target fluid above pump value entered in simulation preferences.

TVD @ PSN is the true vertical depth of the selected PSN depth. The Inclination @ PSN and Dogleg Severity @ PSN are the interpolated values at the selected PSN depth. The Largest Dogleg Severity Value Above PSN is the largest dogleg severity value observed from surface down to the PSN depth.

  4. Enter or verify the tubing details in the bottom row. All of these values are provided as default values based on the Tubing OD defined in the RodSim defaults section. Based on the Tubing OD selected, the remaining values are populated with the most common grade, weight, and top thread, but they can be edited. The Tubing ID is populated based on the Weight selected.

  5. Once Tubing Data is filled out, click on the Well Data tab.
