Pump Slippage Calculator

The pump slippage calculator is used to estimate the volume of fluid that slips between the barrel and the plunger of the bottom hole pump, which contributes to a reduction in volumetric efficiency.

The volumetric efficiency of the bottom hole pump is estimated for each of the stroke length options of a pumping unit.

Plunger Diameter

Diameter of the plunger of the bottom hole pump in inches.

Plunger Length

Length of the plunger in the bottom hole pump measured in feet.

Plunger Barrel Clearance

In a bottom hole pump, there is a space between the outside of the plunger and the inside of the barrel in order to prevent excessive friction. The plunger barrel clearance is the difference in diameter between the barrel and the plunger.

Pump Fill

The volume of fluid in the bottom hole pump at the top of the stroke as a percentage of the total volume between the travelling and standing valves.

SPM

The surface stroke rate of the pumping unit measured in strokes per minute.

Run Time

The number of hours in a 24-hour day the pumping unit is operating.

Liquid Dynamic Viscosity

A quantity measuring the force needed to overcome the internal friction in a fluid.

Fluid Load

The weight the fluid column in the tubing exerts on the pump plunger.

Calculate Fluid Load

The user can select this if they do not have a fluid load value, and want the fluid load to be calculated.

Water Cut

The produced water volume as a percentage of the produced liquid volume.

Water Specific Gravity

Density of the produced water relative to pure water

Oil API

Density of the produced oil measured in degrees API gravity.

Pump Depth

True vertical depth of the bottom hole pump

Casing Pressure

Pressure on the casing, measured at surface when the well is producing.

Tubing Pressure

Pressure on the tubing, measured at surface when the well is producing.

Pump Intake Pressure

The pressure exerted by the fluid column and the casing pressure, measured at the bottom hole pump intake

Use Fluid Level

If the user selects this, they can enter a fluid level rather than a pump intake pressure

Fluid Level

Distance from surface to the top of the annular fluid column

Pumping Unit Type

The user can select between a branded pumping unit, a previously created custom pumping unit, or they can create a new custom pumping unit.

Manufacturer Line

The manufacturer and the product line of the pumping unit.

Model

The pumping unit model, available selections will be populated based on the manufacturer and product line.
