Acceptable Use Policy
Guidelines for permitted and prohibited use of PetroBench services
Effective: April 1, 2026
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets forth the rules and guidelines governing your use of the services offered by PetroBench LLC ("PetroBench," "we," "us," or "our"). This AUP is incorporated by reference into and forms part of our Terms of Service.
By accessing or using the Services, you agree to comply with this AUP. Any violation of this AUP may result in immediate suspension or termination of your access to the Services, without prior notice or liability.
1. Permitted Use
PetroBench is designed and intended exclusively for petroleum engineering simulation, well data management, and related engineering analysis. You may use the Services to create, store, and manage well data and engineering configurations; run rod pump simulations and analyze results; compare rod string designs and generate engineering reports; collaborate with authorized team members on engineering work; and integrate PetroBench data with your authorized internal systems via the API.
2. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to, and shall not permit any third party under your control to, engage in any of the following prohibited activities:
2.1 Security Violations
- Access or attempt to access any accounts, data, systems, or networks that you are not authorized to access
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Services or any related system or network without prior written authorization from PetroBench
- Circumvent, disable, impair, or otherwise interfere with any authentication mechanism, access control, or security feature of the Services
- Interfere with or disrupt the operation, integrity, or performance of the Services, including any servers, networks, or infrastructure connected to the Services
- Introduce or transmit any virus, trojan horse, worm, logic bomb, ransomware, or other material that is malicious, technologically harmful, or designed to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to any system
2.2 Data Misuse
- Store, upload, or transmit data that is unrelated to petroleum engineering operations (the Services are not intended as general-purpose storage)
- Upload malicious files, executables, or code designed to compromise the Services, other users, or any connected systems
- Scrape, crawl, harvest, or bulk-extract data from the Services by any means beyond normal, authorized API usage
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code, algorithms, data structures, or trade secrets of the Services
- Use the Services to store, transmit, or distribute content that infringes the intellectual property rights of any party
- Use the Services to store, transmit, or distribute content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or fraudulent
2.3 API and Integration Abuse
- Exceed published API rate limits or attempt to circumvent, disable, or evade rate limiting mechanisms
- Use API access to develop, support, or operate a product or service that competes with the Services
- Share, publish, or transfer API keys, authentication tokens, or access credentials to unauthorized parties
- Use automated processes or scripts that place an unreasonable or disproportionate load on the Services or its infrastructure
2.4 Legal Violations
- Use the Services in violation of any applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation
- Use the Services to support or promote any illegal activity
- Export, re-export, or transfer any data or technology obtained through the Services in violation of applicable export control laws or trade sanctions
3. Resource Limits
PetroBench reserves the right to limit, throttle, or suspend usage that significantly exceeds normal usage patterns or that negatively impacts platform performance, stability, or availability for other customers. We will use reasonable efforts to contact you before taking limiting action, except where immediate action is necessary to protect the stability, security, or availability of the Services.
4. Account Responsibilities
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your organization's accounts, whether or not authorized by you
- You shall implement reasonable measures to protect your authentication credentials, passwords, and API keys from unauthorized use
- You shall notify PetroBench promptly at support@petrobench.com upon becoming aware of any unauthorized access to or use of your account
- You shall promptly revoke access for any user who leaves your organization or no longer requires access to the Services
- You shall ensure that all authorized users within your organization are aware of and comply with this AUP
5. Enforcement
Violations of this AUP may result in one or more of the following actions, at PetroBench's sole discretion and without limiting any other remedies available to PetroBench:
- A written warning identifying the violation and requesting corrective action within a specified timeframe
- Temporary suspension of the offending account or restriction of specific features
- Permanent termination of the account (for severe, repeated, or uncured violations)
- Referral to law enforcement authorities where required by law or in cases involving suspected criminal activity
PetroBench will use reasonable efforts to provide notice before taking enforcement action, except where immediate action is necessary to protect the Services, our infrastructure, other customers, or the public.
6. Changes to This Policy
PetroBench reserves the right to update this AUP from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to customers via email at least 30 days before taking effect. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated AUP.
